Dr. Bhramar Mukherjee is a globally recognized biostatistician whose work sits at the intersection of statistics, public health, and data equity. At Yale she serves as the Anna M.R. Lauder Professor of Biostatistics and as Senior Associate Dean of Public Health Data Science and Data Equity, with additional appointments in Epidemiology (Chronic Diseases) and in Statistics and Data Science. She joined Yale in 2024 after eighteen years building biostatistics and precision-health programs at the University of Michigan.
Her methodological research tackles some of the hardest problems in modern health data — selection bias in electronic health records, gene–environment interaction, the analysis of environmental exposure mixtures, and the integration of disparate data sources in ways that advance, rather than erode, equity. Her applied work spans cancer, cardiovascular, and reproductive-health epidemiology, and she has authored more than 535 publications cited over 19,000 times.
At the SMART America Institute, she brings rigorous, equity-centered data science to the Institute's mission of guiding artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies toward the public good.
